Since I’ve met Michelle a few years back, I have re-visited her website often do to the interesting content. Unfortunately, the last time I had a chance to meet up with Michelle I was on the tail end of my first ever case of laryngitis and our in-person interview did not happen. However, in between her hectic schedule of filming her tv series (Alive & Well), editing, photo shoots, animal causes, and probably so much more I managed to get some feedback from her on her entertaining lifestyle.
Michelle practices a modern organic lifestyle and has a few tips and ideas on how to make your next home entertaining experience a little greener.
Michelle also passed on one of her favorite dessert recipes to share with us, so check out the recipe page for her vegan chocolate mousse. If you want further insights into practicing a modern organic lifestyle, visit Michelle’s website using the link below. Otherwise, enjoy my interview with Michelle and, if you haven’t already tried a vegetarian inspired party…what are you waiting for?
Have you ever taken a cooking class? What kind?
I have taken a raw foods cooking class and I loved it! I began cooking just by experimenting and reading cookbooks and really just learned on my own but for something very specific such as raw vegan cuisine, a great class is a big help!
A kitchen gadget you could not live without?
I am a huge fan of the vita mix and the magic bullet! The vita mix is an incredible machine that I use personally and on Alive + Well. I find the magic bullet is excellent for quick small batch sauces.
One thing you always do at your home when entertaining?
I am fan of desserts so I usually do a big dessert spread where people can choose from an assortment of delicious treats. I also like an elegant table setting and use Sea Glass recycled glass dishware which is beautiful and very modern.
What is oldest thing in your kitchen?
Definitely my knives!
What is the newest thing in your kitchen?
I just got a new Cuisinart ice cream maker to make vegan ice cream!
When guests come over you would prefer they not…
Feel bad about all the time I end of spending in the kitchen. Just have fun!
Favorite hostess gift you ever received?
My friend brought me back some tea from France, which was very thoughtful.
Favorite green hostess gift you enjoy giving?
Chocolate! Everyone loves it and I can give people chocolate they haven’t tried before and some raw, vegan chocolate!
Ideal party size…number that you enjoy entertaining for?
Intimate is always better. For a dinner party, anything over 6 people and it starts getting crazy!
Party game/activity you enjoying doing with guests?
Any board game is fun!
Do you have advice to give a future home entertaining host?
Don’t worry so much! I usually go overboard and you don’t have to, especially when you are just starting out. It’s ok to mix in store bought and restaurant food, the idea is just to have fun.
Things anyone can do to make their party “green”?
If gifts are involved don’t wrap them. A gift bag or ornate gift box can be reused. I have a collection of boxes I use at Christmas that can be reused year after year. Try and eat organic and vegan. Eating organic reduces exposure to pesticides and other toxins. When you are eating vegan you reducing your own exposure to the antibiotics and other chemicals from meat, plus you are helping the environment!
A place you might recommend getting green invitations from?
The greenest invitation is electronic but for printed invitations Pear Tree greetings sells invitations made from recycled materials.
